The First Step - Card Sleeves!
Card sleeves are the most basic protection component to card collecting! These are the inexpensive, plastic sleeves that a majority of your cards will go into. They will help keep the card protected from surface scratches, dirt, and other potential hazards than can lower the card’s value! All cards that are going into any sort of top loader should be sleeved beforehand! You can see my top loader page as well for more details on how to use them in card collecting. As a collector, I typically keep anywhere from 500-1,000 card sleeves handy, as you never know when you’re going to need them! I sleeve MANY of my cards, so I always have them while opening products.
Standard Sleeves
Below are some of the standard card sleeves that I frequently use! I purchase card sleeves around 1,000 at a time, because I KNOW I will use them eventually! Every rookie, insert, numbered, jersey, auto, or great player’s card will be put into a plastic sleeve, so I know I’ll need many!
Thick Card Sleeves
Thick Card Sleeves are used less often, but are necessary when thicker jersey cards are collected! These card sleeves will fit the thicker cards, such as the 100+ point cards. Normal card sleeves may be too tight for the thick jersey cards, so these Thicker card sleeves are the way to go! I don’t typically purchase as many of these, but I still buy a hundred or two hundred just to be safe! You never know when you’re going to hit that awesome jersey card, except it’s super thick! (Hint – The single 100 count pack is the best deal shown on amazon!).
Card Sleeve Summary
Well, there you have it! Card Sleeves are extremely important in trading card collecting. Whether it is football, baseball, pokemon, Wrestling, or ANY type of sports or trading card – Card Sleeves are a must! Like I said, I keep anywhere from 500-1,000 on hand at all times, and sometimes even more, depending on how many cards I plan to open in the foreseeable future. With how often I open football cards, I need quite a few! Once you start sleeving cards often, it’ll become a habit, and you’ll do it quickly. Best of luck masting the skill of sleeving your trading cards. To the next step… Using Top Loaders!
